The English are fanatical about their golf, and there are courses everywhere. The classic courses are concentrated in a few areas that can each be experienced separately or combined with each other or with tours of Wales, Scotland, or Ireland.
Northwest England—the “Golf Coast” Program
There is a great concentration of courses along the Lancashire coast, and the area is surrounded by beautiful English countryside. In the center is the great city of Liverpool, home of the Beatles, and the area includes many seaside resort towns, such as Southport.

Southeast England—the Kent program
Royal Cinque Ports 16th Hole
Kent has the oldest recorded place name in the British Isles and was settled well before many other English locations. It home to the spectacular White Cliffs of Dover and some of the most interesting historic sites in England including the historic Canterbury Cathedral. The prestigious Royal St George’s Golf Club has hosted the British Open Championship on 13 previous occasions and looks forward to welcoming the world’s oldest major tournament back in 2011. Only four miles away lies the undulating links and dramatic greens of Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club, host to the Open on two previous occasions and now one of three final qualifying courses for the Open. Several other courses from the London area to the Dover coast make this another golfing mecca.

Royal Birkdale

Another great links course near Royal St George’s in Sandwich Bay, once summed up by Bernard Darwin as ‘truly great’. Founded in 1892, the club received its royal status in 1908 when the Prince of Wales became president. It has hosted two British Opens – 1909 and 1920.
